Breaking down the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play bracket with tee times, format explanation, purse info and how you can watch the PGA Tour.

For what is going to be the last time in the near future on the PGA Tour, it’s time for match play. More specifically, it’s the trip to Austin Country Club for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Last year, it was Scottie Scheffler being in the middle of his reign of terror en route to eventually winning The Masters that hoisted the trophy in Austin after beating match play guru Kevin Kisner in the final. Scheffler is back in the field this week, fresh off his win at THE PLAYERS Championship, and looking to make some noise again this week.

But the field is loaded at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play this week with Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth, and many, many more ready to take the match play crown. The one notable not playing this week will be Justin Thomas, who elected to skip this week, likely in preparation for Augusta.

So let’s check out all you need to know with the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play bracket, the tee times, the purse info, and everything you need to watch and stream the PGA Tour action this week.

It’s hard to not be intrigued by many of these groups. The Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler, Billy Horschel and Keith Mitchell grouping for Group 2, in particular, could be fascinating to watch with some really hot players in addition to a past winner at this event in Horschel. And, of course, match play always breeds upset and drama, so we have to be on the lookout for that.

WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play format 2023

Obviously, after seeing the bracket, you can tell that there is a bit of a different format for this week.

The 64 players in the field are divided into 16 groups of four for the first rounds that will last from Wednesday-to-Friday with each player matched against another from their group until they’ve played everyone in that group. The winner of the group will be determined by the player who accrues the most points in those matches (0 for a loss, 0.5 for a tie, 1 for a win) and will advance. From there, it will be single-elimination standard match play with the Round of 16 and quarterfinals played on Saturday and then the semifinals, third-place match and final played on Sunday.
