Updated Masters weather forecast 2023: Rain and cold encroaching on Augusta
Taking a look at the updated Masters weather forecast for Augusta, GA to see what the golfing world will be watching this week.
When everyone thinks about The Masters and the beautiful pathways through Augusta National Golf Club, it’s hard not to think about the Georgia sun shining brightly on the fairways and through the trees with a warm early-spring air coming through and accentuating the brightness of the blooming azaleas. The Masters weather, however, doesn’t always give us that picture.
We’ve seen some inclement weather in Augusta, GA in some of the recent tournaments that have caused delays, different conditions and a general lack of sunny, warm days. And unfortunately, the Masters weather forecast has been looking that way for about a week now.
But now that we’re just hours away from the ceremonial tee shots and then the tournament starting, what does the weather look like in Augusta for the next four days of major championship golf? Let’s take a look at the Masters weather forecast right before we tee things off.
Updated Masters weather forecast for Augusta, GA in 2023
If there’s one bit of positive news about The Masters weather forecast, it’s that Thursday should allow the players to get off to a clean start with some warm conditions. After there was previously rain in the forecast, Thursday, April 6 now only has a 17% chance of rain for the entire day with a high of 84ºF and minor 5-10mph winds.
Then things start to turn kind of ugly.
Players in the early wave on Friday, April 7 might be okay as it’s expected to be cloudy early with a high of 77ºF for the day but temperatures are supposed to drop as the afternoon and evening will be rainy with an 81% chance of rain in teh forecast. Moreover, the winds will be whipping a bit and changing from an eastern wind to a northeastern wind blowing at 10-20mph.
Saturday, April 8 is when it starts to get really tough for The Masters as there is a 97% chance of rain and with a high temperature of only 51ºF for the day. There is expected to be extremely heavy rain throughout the day, which could affect conditions and perhaps stop play. The winds from the previous day will persist.
It will still be cold for the scheduled final round on Sunday, April 9 according to the weather forecast with a high of only 59ºF projected. But the rain might subside a bit. There is a 57% chance early in the day but that is expected to clear out with the find still blowing about the same and making way for overcast skies.
If there’s any type of silver lining, it’s that it doesn’t appear that thunderstorms are in the forecast, which might mean minimal stoppages in play. That’s what we’re all hoping for, but the weather in Augusta is not expected to be anything close to ideal conditions.
