The Masters is one of the toughest tests in golf at Augusta National Golf Club, but how many players finished under par at the 2022 tournament?

There are almost an inconceivable number of things that make The Masters as special as it is. Whether it’s memories with Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, whether it’s the atmosphere at Augusta National Golf Club, or whether it’s the collection of golf’s greats every year at such a beautiful course, it always delivers.

But one of the undeniable truths about The Masters and why winning a Green Jacket is so revered in the game of golf is something quite simple: There is nothing easy about the golf course.

Augusta National routinely adjusts the course to challenge players on an already extremely difficult golf course with weird angles, lightning-fast and sloping greens, and tough eye lines. It’s why the course and tournament have withstood the test of time. And it’s also why just getting under par is a feat in itself.

Yes, the winner of The Masters is almost always under par, and very much so. However, it’s also true that the cut line is often a few strokes over par. The bigger question, though, is how many players finish under par. Specifically, how many players were under par for Augusta National in 2022?

How many players were under par at 2022 Masters?

Despite some low Sunday scores for the final round, there weren’t even double-digits who finished better than even last year. Only nine players ended The Masters under par in 2022. Winner Scottie Scheffler obviously led the way but was joined by Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Cameron Smith, Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatoris, Corey Conners, Sungjae Im and Justin Thomas. Cameron Champ and Charl Schwartzel were oh-so-close, finishing at even par.

Conditions obviously played a role in that, though, which is evidenced in comparison to 2021. When things were a bit milder in terms of the wind and weather, there were 20 players who finished under par in that tournament.

What was Scottie Scheffler’s winning score at 2022 Masters?

Like Hideki Matsuyama in 2021, Scottie Scheffler was well under par as he captured the win at The Masters, finishing the tournament at 10-under. Unlike Matsuyama, who won by a single stroke, Scheffler’s victory was by three strokes with Rory McIlroy finishing outright second at 7-under. Even wilder, Scheffler four-putted the 18th hole on Sunday for a double bogey, otherwise he would’ve finished at 12-under with a simple two-putt par.
