F1 rumors: Aston Martin could ascend to the top with help of a Red Bull partner
By Josh Wilson
Aston Martin has improved considerably since Lawrence Stroll invested in the team. It’s next big jump could be via a Red Bull partner.
With the addition of Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin has proven that its infusion of capital from Lawrence Stroll’s purchase of the team a few years back, combined with talent, will set them up for success in Formula One. This year, they’ve entrenched themselves as the second- or third-best team early in the season.
Within a few years, Aston Martin could be the fastest team on the grid, exactly what Stroll’s expectations were when he purchased the team.
The car they have for this season is the one they’ve got, but they can now look toward future years for drastic improvements that could leap-frog it over the likes of Red Bull racing. Ironically, one of the adjustments they’re considering could involve a partner helping them get ahead of Red Bull.
Aston Martin considering changing to Red Bull’s current engine supplier, Honda
Aston Martin is currently running the Mercedes engine in its 2023 car. Motorsport.com is reporting that the team could make a switch to Honda in 2026, though.
’26 will bring about a massive shift in the sport as engines are going to swap like crazy. There are brand new regulations coming to bear that year. It will also bring about new suppliers: Alpine, Audi, and Ford (Red Bull) are all entrants in the race.
Red Bull is an innovative and well-led team, but Honda has been a substantial part of their success. The switch to Ford sounds promising, but Aston Martin will get to bring over some of the institutional knowledge Honda has from building a dominant car for Red Bull starting in 2026.
Things could get really interesting with the Constructor’s title this decade.
