Today’s Premier League news includes transfer rumors linking Lionel Messi to Chelsea, Neymar to Newcastle United and Ferran Torres to Aston Villa. 

Premier League rumors: Lionel Messi to Chelsea

Lionel Messi’s time at PSG appears to be over. He has recently been suspended by the club for two weeks for missing training to go to Saudi Arabia and there have been reports that he will not sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 side.

The Argentine has been linked with a return to Barcelona, a move to Al-Hilal but also to MLS with Inter Miami. After the World Cup, many thought that he would retire from international Soccer and look to wind down his career in MLS or the Saudi Professional League. However, he has remained committed to Argentina’s national team which has prompted speculation that he would want to continue in Europe.

A move back to Barcelona would be difficult given the Spanish club’s finances right now but a move to the Premier League could be an option. Football London has reported that “Chelsea is among the clubs thought to be keen on signing him.”

Messi is yet to play in the Premier League which is one argument that Cristiano Ronaldo is better than him as the Portuguese proved himself in English soccer’s top flight. At Chelsea, he could be a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s rebuild of the club and prove himself in what many fans see as the best league in the World.

Premier League rumors: Neymar to Newcastle

Many PSG fans recently protested that Messi should leave the club and they were also chanting for Neymar to go. A move to the Premier League could be the option with Newcastle United a possibility.

According to 90min, “Newcastle United’s majority shareholders PIF are interested in bringing Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar to the Premier League.”

Eddie Howe’s side is currently 3rd in the Premier League, so are in a good position to qualify for the Champions League next season. With them being in European soccer’s premier competition, they will be able to attract a higher caliber of players.

Neymar like Messi is yet to play in the Premier League, so moving to Newcastle would be a chance for the Brazilian to prove himself at the highest level.

Premier League rumors: Ferran Torres to Aston Villa

Aston Villa is close to appointing Mateu Alemany to a role at the club. Alemany is currently Barcelona’s director of football but looks to be on his way out. Villa have now already been linked to some talented players including Barcelona’s former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres.

The Daily Telegraph has reported that “Aston Villa are considering ambitious moves for Dusan Vlahovic, the Juventus striker, and Barcelona winger Ferran Torres in the summer transfer window.”

Unai Emery has done a spectacular job since taking over at Villa and has taken the club up to eighth in the division. If they can make some shrewd signings this summer then they could really be a force in English soccer.
