Bronny James, the oldest son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, will be staying in California, committing to play for the USC Trojans.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has said that his goal before retiring is to play in the NBA his oldest son, Bronny. We are getting closer to it, as Bronny is playing in his final season for Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles. All that was left was to find out which college program he will play for in 2023. After buzz and speculation, the college basketball world received their answer from James’ eldest son, picking from three finalists.

On Saturday, James announced on his Instagram account that he will be committing to play for the USC Trojans basketball program, complete with a caption reading “Fight On #Committed.”

Bronny James officially commits to play for USC

So, James won’t be leaving Los Angeles after all. But, the momentum has been behind USC to secure his commitment. The On3 Recruiting Prediction team had USC as 72.3-percent favorites to secure James’ commitment. The other two finalists that were in the running were Ohio State and Oregon.

247 Sports Composite lists James as a five-star recruit, ranking as the fourth-best player in California and the 21st-best player in the entire nation.

James scored 15 points and dished out four assists in the McDonald’s All-American Game this past March. Additionally, James put up 11 points and four rebounds in the Nike Hoop Summit in early April (stats per Yahoo Sports).

USC now adds James to their 2023 recruiting class. They were already able to sign five-star point guard Isiah Collier and four-star center Arrinten Page to letters of intent.

Of course, the talk will now undoubtedly transition to when he will declare for the NBA Draft, but let’s take it one step at a time. On May 6, 2023, Bronny James officially committed to play for the USC Trojans.
