MLB rumors: Guardians send a fan favorite down, White Sox get even worse, A’s on the up?
By Josh Wilson
The baseball season is cruising along, and MLB teams are starting to regret the moves they have made in the offseason. On Saturday, the Cardinals took Willson Contreras out of the starting catcher role after they committed to him for several years and $87.5 million to backfill Yadier Molina.
Oli Marmol may not be long in St. Louis at this rate…
On the other hand, other teams are looking mighty wise for making savvy moves this winter, the Braves among them. We’ll start there today, looking at another team who found a diamond in the rough of the waiver wire.
Oakland Athletics make a savvy signing on a win streak
Don’t look now, but the Oakland Athletics are on the upswing despite a year of turmoil. They have hit their first win streak of the season, winning their second consecutive game for the first time in 2023 on Tuesday.
One of the signings that has played well for Oakland is Brent Roker, who MLB Trade Rumors did a nice expose on this week. Roker has put up four hits in the last two games, and over the last 15 has slashed .333/.470/.745 with an OPS of 1.215.
Roker is in his fourth big-league season, which means this reinvention year could be the springboard for success for the rest of his career.
Oakland, obviously, is in a rough spot, considering we’re celebrating a two-game win streak for them. They announced this year they’d be leaving Oakland for Las Vegas and have trouble even putting up minor-league attendance numbers.
But Roker might be a reason to come to the park and watch, even if the win streaks are few and far between.
