It’s the second year of Thursday Night Football’s move to Amazon Prime. What NFL teams will be playing on Thursdays this season?

Thursday Night Football has always been a controversial topic with fans of the NFL, who feel like the package gets the worst games of any primetime slot due to a combination of poor scheduling decisions and sloppier football on a short week. Al Michaels, who does play-by-play for the package on Amazon Prime, notably complained last year about the quality of the games he had to work and it looks like the NFL made an attempt to improve the product.

A notable rule change allows teams to play more than one game on Thursday in a short week, which will function to keep some of the league’s projected worst teams out of primetime and get a few better games in the mix. How did Amazon fare with its Thursday night slate for 2023?

What Teams Are Playing On Thursday Night Football In 2023?

The crown jewel of the Amazon package is actually its Black Friday game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. That contest brings star power with Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers and a critical AFC East matchup between two teams that should be fighting for the playoffs.

The NFL also has stacked the early portion of the Thursday night schedule with games against good teams as Weeks 2 and 3 reportedly feature the Minnesota Vikings taking on the Philadelphia Eagles while the New York Giants head west to take on the San Francisco 49ers. All four of those teams were in the postseason a year ago, making those matchups very appealing.

Detroit is also getting an appearance on Amazon’s package as they take on the Green Bay Packers in Week 4, taking advantage of the new league rule to appear twice on short weeks during the course of the season. Those teams will also meet on Thanksgiving, making it fair for them since they will play both matchups on the rest disadvantage.
