Brooks Koepka returns to major glory, wins third PGA Championship: Golf Twitter celebrates
Brooks Koepka didn’t repeat his mistakes at Augusta on Sunday at Oak Hill, capturing his third PGA Championship win and golf Twitter had to tip their caps.
Brooks Koepka went into the final round of The Masters with a two-stroke lead over Jon Rahm. Unfortunately, he ended his tournament with a final round 75, which allowed him to get overtaken and ended up in a tie with fellow LIV Golf member Phil Mickelson for second. He said as he entered the third round of the 2023 PGA Championship with the lead, though, that he wasn’t going to let those same mistakes happen.
He didn’t.
After shooting 1-over in the first round of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, Koepka had a one-stroke lead entering Sunday after back-to-back rounds of 4-under 66. Viktor Hovland provided a hefty challenge but, with a disastrous double-bogey for the Norwegian on the 16th hole, a third Wanamaker Trophy was headed Koepka’s way.
He played brilliantly to get it done, shooting a 3-under round to lock it up, making par on the final hole to secure the 2023 PGA Championship win.
Brooks Koepka wins the 2023 PGA Championship and Golf Twitter loved it
Golf fans around the world had to celebrate one of the most dominant major championship golfers that we’ve seen in recent memory returning to the mountaintop with another Wanamaker Trophy for his case.
Koepka said on the Netflix Full Swing documentary that he was doubting if he could compete after a number of injuries had limited him. That was a feeling that he’s also indicated led to his move to LIV Golf. So to see him return to this form at the 2023 PGA Championship is a special moment for golf fans.
And if major championship Brooks Koepka is the back in the way it looks like, he might not stop here.
