Celine Boutier has the best two weeks of her life: First a historic major, then Scottish Open title
Celine Boutier won the Women’s Scottish Open just one week after becoming the first French golfer to win the LPGA Amundi Evian Championship, her maiden major.
It’s been an incredible two weeks for French golfer Celine Boutier. The 29-year-old made history as the first French golfer to win the Evian LPGA Championship. That was last week. This week, she headed across the English Channel to Dundonald Links in Ayrshire, Scotland for yet another title, her fifth LPGA victory, finishing at 15-under and shooting 273 for the entire tournament.
You can say that Boutier is on a winning streak.
“I’m really good for the rest of the year,” Boutier had said after winning the Evian major, according to Sports Illustrated, joking about the surprise victory in France.
But evidently, she wasn’t finished, going on to capture a third LPGA title for the year on Sunday.
“It’s completely crazy. I would have never imagined that I would be able to win not one, but two tournaments in a row, and yeah, I’m just incredibly in shock,” Boutier said via ESPN, who won on Sunday by two shots, over Hyo Joo Kim, who came in second at 13-under, and this year’s PGA champion, Ruoning Yin, who finished third at 12-under.
Confidence has clearly been the Duke University graduate’s friend. Golfing fans were wondering how Boutier would follow up the dominant win at Evian, where she held her competitors at bay throughout the event, finishing with an imposing six-shot lead.
Celine Boutier continued impressive run at Women’s Scottish Open
“I feel like I’ve definitely been playing well and the fact that I got a good result last week also is giving me a little bit of confidence,” Boutier said on Saturday at Dundonald Links, according to the Golf Channel. “And just trying to build off of that, and hopefully a good, solid round tomorrow.”
At the 72-hole Scottish course Boutier didn’t quite win with the same kind of authority, squandering a four shot lead over Kim and Yin after knocking in a birdie at hole 13. Despite two nervous bogeys on holes 14 and 16, the five-time LPGA winner managed to steady herself to lock up the par-five 18th to keep her two-shot lead. And that was enough.
And just like her win at Evian, Boutier was deluged with champagne, from her peers and supporters, in hilarious fashion.
The question now is how long can Celine Boutier keep this streak going? Next up on the LPGA Tour is the AIG Women’s Open, at the Walton Heath Golf Club in England and the last LPGA major of the year. All eyes will certainly be on Boutier. The IAG begins Aug. 10.
