Steelers fans don’t believe Adam Schefter’s latest Aaron Rodgers update

Every Pittsburgh Steelers and NFL fan expects Aaron Rodgers to be the starting quarterback at still-calling-it Heinz Field come Week 1 of the 2025 season. The catch there is, despite that being widely expected for months now, it's still not official. Rodgers has kept the Steelers playing the waiting game and, frankly, it seems like fans are sick of it. If you needed any more evidence of that, the latest update on Rodgers' timeline from ESPN's Adam Schefter, saying the signing could come soon, is fully indicative of the tenor around the situation.

During an appearance on ESPN Milwaukee, Schefter was asked about Rodgers and the timeline for the quarterback signing with the Steelers as expected. He made it sound like it could be happening soon.

"My guess is he's going to wind up going there," Schefter said. "You know, we've heard Art Rooney, the team owner, say he expects Aaron Rodgers to sign there. And they have a mandatory minicamp June 10-12. So, I would think Rodgers is on the table here in the next week or so.

That's certainly reasonable given the minicamp dates. At the same time, this isn't the first "soon" timeline we've heard with Rodgers (or from Schefter) and we still don't have him in Pittsburgh. So rather than getting excited about the quarterback potentially signing, Steelers fans responded by just plainly being over the waiting game in its entirety.

The will-they, won't-they of it all reminded one fan of Friends.

Others were even more outright in straight-up not believing Schefter based on the offseason and Rodgers track record to this point.

Steelers fans don't believe Aaron Rodgers will sign this week, despite report

In fairness to Steelers fans, they have every reason to be skeptical of this report regarding Rodgers. Not only is this something they've already heard earlier this offseason that proved not to be true, but Schefter and Rodgers, infamously, aren't on the best of terms. Never forget that the quarterback once told the ESPN insider "lose my number", which Schefter then confirmed.

What stands out, though, is that many Steelers fans are already growing tired of the Rodgers saga before he's officially on the roster in Pittsburgh. That doesn't exactly bode well for what the season will look like for fans when he does eventually sign. Rodgers has been a lightning rod for both attention and controversy over the past few seasons, so if they're tired of him making the team play the waiting game, there will be many similarly frustrating instances sure to come.

At the same time, perhaps the most frustrating part of this for fans is the simple fact that they desperately need Rodgers. As much as Will Howard is becoming an offseason fan-favorite and the team is expressing confidence in Mason Rudolph if he needs to start, their best hope of contending in any meaningful capacity is with Rodgers under center. In fact, it might be their only chance of contending.

Everyone should still fully believe that Rodgers will be the Steelers' quarterback this season. However, we should probably just give up on figuring out when that'll officially happen. It'll happen when it does, and this offseason has proven that guessing when that'll be is a futile effort at this point.
