NFL star quarterback Cam Newton grew up in Atlanta, and grew up as a fan of the Atlanta Falcons. Current Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton’s foundation was hosting their “Fun Day” at a YMCA in southwest Atlanta, and he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he still roots for the Falcons.

“It’s always a heavily critiqued game,” Newton said of the Falcons-Panthers divisional matchup. “I’ve always been aFalcons fan, and I’m still a Falcons fan except for those two times a year.”

It will be interesting to see if this gets any flack from fans in Carolina. He did add in that “all but two times a year” clause, however.

San Francscio 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was spotted wearing a Miami Dolphins hat and it sparked quite the controversy. Posting a defiant picture on Instagram as a response wasn’t the right way to handle it either. Eventually he had to post a picture of himself in San Francisco gear to calm fans down.

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White tried to work his way into the controversy by saying he owns other NFL team’s gear. It didn’t seem to generate much buzz so Cam Newton might be safe.
