Now, we know what led to Jones receiving that designation.
According to Pro Football Talk, Jones suffered an ankle injury during an offseason workout with starting quarterback Andy Dalton.
The workout was a passing camp after the Bengals OTAs that was set up by the quarterback.
While Jones’ placement on the non-football injury list was a bit of a surprise, the good news for the Bengals is that Jones is simply listed as day-to-day so he is not expected to miss significant time.
Jones is expected to return to practice later this week.
Hopefully Jones and Dalton were able to continue building their chemistry before the injury, because he showed signs of promise just a year ago. If Jones can continue to improve, the Bengals may finally have the true No. 2 wideout that they have been in search of.
