It’s no secret that Jarome Iginla is hungry to win a Stanley Cup. In the past three years, fans have seen the Edmonton native wear as many uniforms, making a mid-season departure from the Calgary Flames to join the Pittsburgh penguins in 2013 and signing with the Boston Bruins just months later.

Now, he’s on to Colorado, hoping that the Ray Borque trick can be performed twice in the Rocky Mountains.

According to the Denver Post, Colorado Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy is handing off a significant chunk of the reins this season to Jarome Iglinla. One of the decisions he’s leaving in the league vet’s hands is whether or not he will wear be an alternate captain this season in place of Paul Stastny.

The right winger spent nine years as captain of the Flames, and he’s got the leadership to back it up.

He’s also suggested, though, that the ‘A’ might be better worn by one of the team’s younger players, such as Matt Duchene or Nathan MacKinnon. That would make the Avs one of the youngest-led teams in the league; captain Gabriel Landeskog won’t even turn twenty-two for another couple of months, and the team’s ‘veteran’ voice currently belongs to thirty-year-old Cody Mcleod.

I know, right? Ancient.

Whatever Iginla chooses to do, though, it’s clear that the choice will be made with a Cup in mind.
