It seems like one thing after another has piled up for this Pittsburgh captain.

First, he suffered a wrist injury in March.

Then, he was out (as per usual, cause Sidney Crosby) with an undisclosed injury at the start of training camp. The forward has yet to play in a single pre-season matchup, and has been limited in his training camp participation.

According to the club’s official website, though, Sidney Crosby has finally been medically cleared to play. He was scheduled to appear in Saturday’s pre-season game against the Columbus Blue Jackets- and while he’ll be missing that game due to the death of his grandmother, fans can probably expect to see him playing from here on out.

It may be good news to Pittsburgh fans to at least see that their captain will debut the regular season with them, particularly as their other star forward, Evgeni Malkin, has also been out with an injury. Neither player’s injuries were disclosed to the public, although Malkin hasn’t been seen in any pre-season games OR training camp practices, despite the seeming non-severity of his injury.

Of course, fans- and other bystanders- can never truly tell exactly what a serious or non-serious injury looks like- for an in-depth explanation of that, just Google “Rich Peverley“.

This means that of the astronomically long injury list in the Eastern Conference, at least two teams will be starting the season with their star players on the ice, as Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux has made it clear that he plans to appear in the first regular season game. Neither Crosby nor Giroux has really gotten any benefit from the cobweb-shaking aspect of pre-season or training camp, though. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia may be rivals, but they’ve got this in common- they might be off to a shaky start this October.
