The early story out of Jets camp was that Enemkpali sucker punched Smith in the locker room. However, as news slowly trickled out the narrative changed to Smith sticking his finger in Enemkpali’s face, possibly provoking his former teammate.

The timetable for Smith’s absence is 8-10 weeks, and he’ll most likely be replaced by veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. There’s also Bryce Petty, who will compete for the role.

Enemkpali was immediately cut from the team following the altercation. When discussing the incident, Jets head coach Todd Bowles said it was something that sixth graders would fight over. Start placing bets now as to what provoked the incident.

In two years under center in New York, Smith has started 29 games, recorded 25 touchdowns, 34 interceptions and had a less-than-stellar completion percentage of 57.5. His record as a starter is 11-18.
