The Atlanta Falcons and franchise quarterback Matt Ryan have had “casual” contract negotiations but don’t appear ready to strike a deal just yet.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that while both sides have exchanged figures and have talked occasionally, a deal is more likely to be struck after the Fourth of July.
Per Mike Florio:
"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, casual talks currently are occurring, with an expectation that things will heat up after the July 4 holiday."
The Falcons nor Ryan have much reason to rush a deal as the former Boston College quarterback still has a year left on his contract, though, it has been reported that defensive tackle Richard Seymour will not be able to sign with Atlanta until Ryan and the Falcons agree on a new deal.
How much Ryan will get is currently an unknown, though, it’s expected he’s seeking a deal somewhere in the range of Joe Flacco‘s contract which would pay $20 million (give or take) annually.
