Outside of Week 3 where Donnie Avery exploded for 141 yards on seven receptions, it’s been a quite season for the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver.
He’s hoping to change that today and things started off well for Avery who hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith.
With the Chiefs trailing 3-0 late in the first quarter, Smith engineered a solid drive which inched and inched through Chargers territory. Things stalled though as the Chiefs and Smith were faced with a 3rd and 11 scenario – on the brink of field goal range. That lead the Chargers to believe the Chiefs would attempt to pick up a few yards on the ground, but Kansas City had other ideas and Smith fired a perfect lob to Avery who was streaking down field.
The touchdown catch was Avery’s second of the season and his first since Opening Week.
