If you missed it, before Duke shockingly lost to Mercer in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White bet a fan season tickets on the 50-yard line if Mercer somehow came up with the improbable defeat.
Well, Mercer did do just that and White all but skated out of his promise, suggesting he would (reluctantly) give the fan tickets to the Falcons home game against the Chicago Bears.
The backtracking upset many who called out White for not fulfilling his obligation, but the wide receiver says he can’t because gambling is illegal in the NFL.
Y'all people are crazy on twitter you want me to man up and pay a bet to a person that had nothing to lose in the bet #soundsridicules

Plus it's illegal to gamble in the NFL

Seems as if White is learning the power of social media.
Now, in fairness to White, I understand where he’s coming from but when you’re a multimillionaire athlete and you explicitly say you’ll give a fan season tickets (in detail), people are going to expect you to come through on it.
White could have done nothing at all, but still, that’s a pretty lame reasoning for not giving the dude what you promised.
For what it’s worth, the fan who made the ‘bet’ with White is telling people to lay off the wideout.
@roddywhiteTV Don't stress it! Go out and get on your grind and let's win a Super Bowl!
