Might the Los Angeles Lakers be the new home of LeBron James? It’s probably not the most likely scenario, but it’s one the Lakers would be more than happy with as according to the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers hope to meet with James when free agency officially begins.

More from LeBron James

The idea of James playing alongside Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers has been a scenario talked about (and likely dreamt about by those in Southern California) for quite some time. It’s even been previously reported that the Lakers set themselves up to have significant cap space when James could become a free agent so they’d have the financial ability to bring him in.

Will it work though? There is fear, according to the Times, that James could simply use the Lakers for leverage and return to the Miami Heat on a reduced contract.

"The Lakers are intrigued by LeBron James reportedly opting out of his contract and are hopeful of meeting with the free agent-to-be, The Times has learned. They are proceeding with caution, however, aware that James might simply re-sign for less so the Miami Heat can add another free agent of note."

Earlier today it was reported by ESPN that the Lakers were among the teams who were planning to hopefully sign both LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, though that would require both players to take pay cut’s as the Lakers don’t have enough available cap space to sign both to max contracts. Los Angeles would also need to dip into their reserves a bit as they currently only have three players signed for next season, though they could potentially trade their No. 7 pick (after they draft the player) to obtain more veterans of course.
