Jurgen Klinsmann has said that the United States will go for the win to avoid having to play the Group H winner, which will likely be Belgium.
“We want to be first in our group, so we’re not thinking about a tie,” Klinsmann said, via the team’s website. “We know a tie gets us through too, which if at the end of the day it ends up a tie because it’s an exciting game and a very close game, so be it. But our goal is to beat Germany and to be first now in our group in order to play the second place finisher of the other group in the Round of 16. This is really important, so we cannot kind of just hope that it goes our way.”
Meanwhile, Portugal will be playing Ghana and the winner of that game could eliminate the United States if they were to lose to Germany for some reason. If Ghana defeats Portugal, the Americans losing becomes a lot scarier. There are fewer situations where an American loss would eliminate them if Portugal won because of their horrid goal differential.
Never the less, you want to watch these games but you have to work. So how do you watch? Well if you’re in the United States you can watch it on Watch ESPN, or the Watch ESPN App for your mobile devices. If you want to watch it in Spanish, Univision Deporte en Vivo has the game. Or if you’re living in the United Kingdom and want to watch it, though it will be considerably later in the day and I’d hope you’d be able to get out of work to catch it, it is streaming at BBC iPlayer.
