World Cup Schedule 2014: Live Stream, TV Info and Start Times for Day 15, June 26

Coming into Thursday, the final day of the group stage at the 2014 World Cup, Group G is wide open. All four teams could theoretically still advance out of the “Group of Death” and into the “Round of 16.” Germany and the United States sit in first and second place respectively, but they play one another.

The United States and Germany would both advance to the next round of the tournament with a draw, but USMNT coach Jürgen Klinsmann said they weren’t playing for a tie. That would see them finish second and set up a match up in the next round against Belgium.
The team that wins Group G plays the runner-up in Group H, either Algeria, Russia or South Korea. A much more desirable pairing.
“We want to be first in our group, so we’re not thinking about a tie,” Klinsmann said, via the team’s website. “We know a tie gets us through too, which if at the end of the day it ends up a tie because it’s an exciting game and a very close game, so be it. But our goal is to beat Germany and to be first now in our group in order to play the second place finisher of the other group in the Round of 16. This is really important, so we cannot kind of just hope that it goes our way. We have to work hard for it. We have to take all the energy in there. The circumstances will be, again, very challenging. It’s a one o’clock kick-off, it’s going to be hot and humid, and both teams will hit the wall a couple of times during the 90 minutes. We are prepared for that. Our goal is definitely to beat Germany.”
The United States can still advance with a loss, but it gets much more complicated and depends on the out come of the game between Portugal and Ghana. If either of those two teams want to advance, they need the United States to lose.
With both of those teams motivated to get a win, and the Ghana team a little bit richer, they could end up drawing which would also get the Americans into the knockout round.

Belgium has locked in their spot in the “Round of 16,” but they aren’t guaranteed to win the group. An Algeria win coupled with a Belgium loss could change this group’s finish. Algeria meanwhile is playing a Russian side looking to knock them off and punch their ticket to the knockout round.
South Korea is still in the mix too. A South Korean win could advance them as well, depending on the outcome of the game between Russia and Algeria. It is a thrilling finish to the group stage with both Groups G and H undecided and almost entirely up in the air.
