NBA Rumors: Ricky Rubio, Timberwolves talking contract extension
By Bryan Rose
The Minnesota Timberwolves may be without Kevin Love at some point this season, assuming they trade the All-Star forward but the same can’t be said for point guard Ricky Rubio. The flashy Spaniard has seemingly found a home with the T’Wolves franchise and given that the two sides have reportedly began talks on a contract extension.

Rubio is entering the final year of his rookie scale deal, though, he does have a qualifying offer for the 2015-16 season. However, assuming there is no extension agreed upon, Rubio would enter restricted free agency at season end, allowing rival NBA teams to bid on his services.
Clearly, the Minnesota Timberwolves are not interested in such (especially if they lose Kevin Love via trade or free agency) and will likely do what they can to retain their young star point guard.
As for money, that discussion hasn’t been made public yet and it’s unlikely the two sides have even agreed upon a figure at this point. However, given Rubio is going to be coming off his rookie deal, his extension will be based off such so financially any contract extension won’t break the bank for the Timberwolves.
Of note, Ricky Rubio is also represented by Dan Fegan who is the agent of Chandler Parsons, a player the Minnesota Timberwolves have expressed interest in. The Timberwolves have reportedly been mulling over potential sign-and-trade scenarios involving the aforementioned Kevin Love with Parsons being part of the return, so would such a move help the T’Wolves retain Ricky Rubio if the two were teamed up together? Have to think it wouldn’t hurt.
