While Andrew Wiggins was likely a lock to be selected in the top three of the 2014 NBA Draft prior to Joel Embiid’s injury, he certainly had no guarantee that he would have been picked first overall.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Of course, the Embiid injury opened up a spot atop the draft and the Cleveland Cavaliers, preferring Andrew Wiggins to Jabari Parker, made him the number one pick. That honeymoon didn’t last long though as Andrew Wiggins was seemingly involved in trade rumors before he could even partake in his first interview as an NBA player.

The back-and-forth went on for weeks but Wiggins, assuming there are no roadblocks, is expected to be traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves once his contract legally allows him to be moved.

One may assume that going from playing with LeBron James and chasing an NBA title in your rookie season to being traded to the Timberwolves would be upsetting, but Wiggins has no problem with the deal according to former college head coach Bill Self.

“He’s happy,” Self said. Don’t anybody feel sorry for him. I’m not saying he hasn’t been in limbo and that it hasn’t, at times, been frustrating. But he told me, ‘Coach, I’m good with this.’ He told me that two weeks ago.’’

Leaving a near perfect scenario with the Cavaliers for the T’Wolves isn’t ideal by any stretch, though I’m guessing Andrew Wiggins is just happy to have all of the rumors behind him and is thrilled to be wanted. Understandably, he likely didn’t feel that way with Cleveland.
