Assuming there are no roadblocks to the pending Kevin Love trade, Andrew Wiggins will be playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves next season. Such a sight has to be appeasing for Timberwolves fans to know they have a potential franchise star in the mix.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Of course, Wiggins isn’t going to be an overnight success and Timberwolves fans will have to endure a few more winning seasons before things hopefully turn around.

Much of that will be on Andrew Wiggins’ shoulders and if he wants to be successful, his former college head coach believes he’ll need to stop being so nice. That’s the word from Kansas’ Bill Self who said that Andrew Wiggins was too nice when he came to school and remains that way as he enters the NBA.

“He absolutely was too nice [before arriving at Kansas],” said Self. “And he’s still too nice. [Wolves coach Flip Saunders] will have to get more of that dog in him. He’s just young.’’

While his lack of desire to be an alpha male during his rookie season might hurt some of his numbers and bring out the critics, we’ve seen this situation plenty of times before. You don’t have to look very far outside of Minnesota to recall a very young player, just removed from high school who was timid during his first season in the NBA. That didn’t last long as Kevin Garnett eventually morphed into one of the most headstrong players in the league, so Wiggins’ growth will come with time.
