When Ricky Rubio entered the NBA, the two main concerns most had about the passing wizard was his ability to shoot consistently and his small body frame. He’s still not a very good shooter, though he is improved his shot selection over the past few years.

Ricky Rubio has also apparently improved his frame as well, at least judging by a photo of the point guard during a recent international contest.

The Minnesota Timberwolves point guard is shockingly one of the most tenured veteran talents on the roster and with Kevin Love expected to be traded, he’s (for better or worse) been thrust into a leadership role. It seems as if he’s taking that seriously, at least from a weight lifting standpoint as Ricky Rubio no longer looks like the rather frail point guard many will recall.

We’ve seen a handful of NBA players like LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony drop significant pounds but it appears as if Rubio decided to reverse the spectrum and add weight/muscle.

Of course, there is always the fear that adding a significant amount of muscle can hamper a shooting stroke and we have seen players, Mike Bibby for example, bulk up during the offseason only to struggle with their shot the following season. There’s no scientific evidence to suggest such however and there have been as many players bulk up and keep their shot falling at a similar clip.

Still, Timberwolves fans have to happy with Rubio’s new-look as he won’t be as easy to push around on the court.
