The NFL preseason is a polarizing time of year as it seems there’s a need for the games to be played but that need isn’t universally agreed upon.

More from Cincinnati Bengals

Teams tend to go light in preseason games as there’s nothing more to them then to fine tune for the regular season, get the rookies some playing time and give deep roster depth a chance to make the team. One thing preseason games are not is aggressive — well, unless you’re the New York Jets.

According to Cincinnati.com, the Bengals were not too happy that the Jets decided to blitz their backups late in their preseason game against one another.

"“Notice he didn’t bring that stuff when our starters were out there,” said Alexander. “We’d have scored quicker. If he wants to put his starting defense out there and blitz all that garbage against our third-stringers, if he feels good about it, then all the power to him.”"

It’s hard to get mad at the Jets for blitzing backups as everyone is trying to make the team, especially guys who play late in games as the later you play the more shaky your roster spot it. At the same time though, it’s the preseason and coming with all out blitz packages is a bit harsh when late game reps are basically glorified scrimmages.
