For weeks there has been a constant back-and-forth regarding the Minnesota Timberwolves stance on a potential trade for Philadelphia 76ers forward, Thaddeus Young.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Initially it was believed that the Timberwolves, who are set to acquire Anthony Bennett in their Andrew Wiggins-Kevin Love deal, would then flip Bennett to the 76ers in exchange for Young. That however does not appear likely, though it is said to be known league-wide that Thaddeus Young will still be traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the near future.

That’s the word from Darren Wolfson who broke the news on Thursday afternoon.

Assuming the deal is to go down, it simply becomes a matter of what type of assets will the Philadelphia 76ers receive in return for Thaddeus Young. According to Wolfson it will be a collection of lesser talent and/or the Miami Heat draft pick, currently owned by the Cleveland Cavaliers (which is likely to come Minnesota’s way in their Wiggins-Love deal).

The problem for the Philadelphia 76ers here is they have limited leverage considering Thaddues Young is set to become an unrestricted free agent. Nobody is going to give up anything of significant value for a rental player, especially once that will not re-sign with Philadelphia. Knowing that, the 76ers will have to cut their losses and try to get what they can, be it from the Minnesota Timberwolves or any other team.
