Coming into the season there was talking suggesting New Orleans Saints running back Khiry Robinson could have a big role. But through two games, such hasn’t been the case.

More from New Orleans Saints

Instead, the New Orleans Saints ran (literally) with Mark Ingram and to a lesser extent Pierre Thomas. However, with Ingram now out for at least a month due to a broken hand, it appears as if Khiry Robinson’s role is soon to expand.

"However, the Saints are fortunate to have proven depth in their backfield, with Pierre Thomas, Khiry Robinson and Travaris Cadet still available. Thomas and Robinson are both more than capable of stepping into a more leading role, if needed, in the short term."

With Ingram now out for the considerable future and the fact that he’s not likely to be in the New Orleans Saints’ long-term plans, this could be the break needed for Khiry Robinson to shine.

Still, even with an expanded role, it’s likely that he’ll still need to split carries with Pierre Thomas, so he won’t be given the bell cow tag as many might hope. That said, Robinson should be the feature back when the New Orleans Saints are in the red zone, especially near the goal line.

Assuming Khiry Robinson is able to produce during Ingram’s injury, it’s very possible that the job could remain with the undrafted free agent, even after Ingram returns from his broken hand.
