You may not have to. Green did miss practice, but he has said he wants to play. On top of that, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said after Wednesday’s practice that he expects Green to play on Sunday when the Bengals host the Tennessee Titans.
Green said that he originally injured his toe in the Bengals’ 23-16 season opening win in Baltimore in which caught the game-winning 77 yard touchdown catch . He didn’t look injured on the play in which he made a juggling catch and a great juke move en route to the end zone. The injury caused him to miss practice on Wednesday of last week before exiting Sunday’s game after just six offensive plays.
No one is sure precisely what the toe injury is, but when you run around as much as Green does, you can bet that it is a major hindrance to his game.
The Bengals could also be without All-Pro linebacker Vontaze Burfict, who is again experiencing concussion-like symptoms. He also left Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. The team defined his injury as a “stinger” when he left the game. Burfict was experiencing concussion symptoms last week leading up to the Atlanta game as well, leading to the speculation that he was not fully healed.
Luckily for the Bengals, they have a week 4 bye this year. They are one of the few teams that actually need the rest this early in the season.
