Lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu is scheduled to start a throwing program today, and the Los Angeles Dodgers will hopefully have an idea of his timetable for return from a shoulder injury that has already forced him to miss a week. The Dodgers lead the San Francisco Giants in the NL West by two-and-a-half games with about a week left in the MLB season, though both teams are likely assured of at least landing in the Wild Card game safety net.

Ryu was removed from a game on September 13 after allowing four runs in an inning of work, and has been shut down since then. The lefty has been a solid member of LA’s rotation, with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP in 26 starts. Dan Haren is scheduled to start on Monday for the Dodgers, but the only thing certain about that start seems to be it won’t be Ryu making the start. He said earlier in the week this was similar to another injury this year.
Ryu said this shoulder discomfort feels similar to a previous one that took "a week or two" to resolve. He'll see doctor tomorrow.

The Dodgers will likely wait to see Ryu throw before making any evaluations, and Ryu was delayed from getting to Chicago to join the team, but is expected in town later today.
