The New York Yankees aren’t quite dead in the American League playoff race just yet. To keep those slim hopes alive, they won an exciting game at home over the Toronto Blue Jays by a final score of 3-2.

This game was eventually won on a walk-off error, but the Yankees were in position to win this game thanks in part to a home run for Derek Jeter. In a season that has been full of special moments for Jeter as he bids the league farewell, this home run was a great moment in front of the home crowd.

Listen to the call from announcer Michael Kay if you have any doubt how cool this was for the Yankees, especially in what eventually was a victory.

Oddly enough, this was Jeter’s first home run at Yankee Stadium this season. It was just his fourth of the season.

There are still enough games left in the season for a team like the Yankees to make a big run at a playoff berth. If the Yankees were the ones to do it in the midst of Jeter’s farewell tour, it would a story that would capture the attention of the baseball world. There’s still a long way to go, but a win like this could potentially go a long way.
