Although the Cleveland Cavaliers have become the overwhelming favorite in the NBA’s Eastern Conference this offseason, the Chicago Bulls may have the most complete roster across the NBA.

More from Chicago Bulls

Add in a top-notch coaching staff and it’s not unreasonable to think the Chicago Bulls could compete for the NBA championship come the 2014-15 season. In fact, might this be their best year to bring home the Larry O’Brien trophy?

That seems to be the thinking of Nate Duncan who hints there’s no better time than the present for the Chicago Bulls.

"However, the Bulls do have Nikola Mirotic, Jimmy Butler, and Doug McDermott as players who project to improve quite a bit over the next few years, so it’s not necessarily all or nothing for them this year. But I do think this will be the best shot, particularly since it looks like the Cavs will be without a true rim-protector this year. Also, some younger teams in the East could rise up in future years, whereas this year it appears pretty likely to be just Bulls and Cavs assuming this squad stays healthy."

As Duncan notes, the Cleveland Cavaliers don’t have many holes though their lack of protection in the paint is something that might come back to haunt them. As for the Chicago Bulls, their biggest hurdle is the health of Derrick Rose. If the former NBA MVP can’t return to form, playing for the NBA title seems rather unlikely. But if Rose can be similar to the player who took the league by storm after coming out of Memphis, you have to think they’ll be playing deep into May and possibly June.
