Although the Cleveland Cavaliers have been filling out their roster around LeBron James this offseason, one position has routinely escaped them.

While the Cleveland Cavaliers currently have Anderson Varejao on the roster, the front office has been attempting to find a true center to clog the lane. So far they’ve struck out and with camp set to open in the next week, it doesn’t look like a seven-foot big man will magically appear gift wrapped at Quicken Loans Arena.
Might Tristan Thompson be the answer to their problem? No, the power forward doesn’t have the size the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking for but that may still not stop the team from starting him at center.
"Don’t rule out the possibility of Tristan Thompson starting at center. While it has been widely assumed Anderson Varejao would start in the middle, a theory has been floated within the organization recently that by starting Thompson, coach David Blatt could better limit Varejao’s minutes and help protect him from injury. There is plenty of time to make that final decision, but it’s worth noting the idea has at least been discussed."
With Kevin Love set to become the Cleveland’s power forward of the future, that leaves Tristan Thompson as the odd-man out. If he can prove himself to be worthy of minutes at the center position, that would be a huge coup for the Cavaliers so there’s really no reason to not try it out.
Tristan Thompson will certainly be undersized at the five, but what he might lack in height and weight he could be offset by quicker feet and athletic ability.
