After winning the NBA title in 2011, the Dallas Mavericks let center Tyson Chandler sign with the New York Knicks. Since then, the Mavericks have not been out of the first round. That’s why many believed owner Mark Cuban and the Mavericks were correcting a mistake when they traded for Chandler in the offseason.

“Let’s just say I learn from my mistakes,” Cuban said, replying to an inquiry about whether the big man’s second stay in Dallas would last longer than one season via Tim McMahon of ESPN Dallas.

Cuban was also asked if he wished he’d kept Chandler the first time.

“Obviously it would have been better if we could have kept him, right?” Cuban said after leaving the stage. “But our hand was dealt with all the changes. All’s well that ends well. I think it turned out just the way we wanted, just the way I planned.”

Chandler was limited to 55 games last season and averaged 8.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 59.3% from the field and 63.2% from the free throw line. In his 13-year NBA career, the second-overall pick in the first round of the 2001 NBA Draft has played for the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans (Hornets) and Charlotte Hornets (Bobcats) in addition to the Mavericks and Knicks. He’s put up 8.7 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 0.8 assists per game while shooting 58.4% from the floor and 63.9% from the charity stripe.
