There’s no doubt the triangle offense is one of the more difficult schemes to guard for opposing defenses. Of course, it’s also incredibly hard to learn which is why many choose to run another type of offensive system.

However, under newly minted head coach Steve Kerr, the Golden State Warriors play to change their offensive scheme to the triangle this season and it’s a move that should benefit the roster in the long-term. Of course, for those who haven’t played in a triangle offense before, there is a significant learning curve and Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders worries the team (namely the bench) may struggle to pick up the new offense.
"The Triangle is notoriously hard to pick up, but the Warriors have some really high IQ players at least in the starting lineup. The biggest issue will be some of the bench players picking it up, especially with less in-game reps. That is important, because a key aspect of the triangle is allowing the bench and role players to get shots."
While bench players on the Golden State Warriors will be able to practice the triangle, game action can’t be replicated, especially when you practice against the same defender every day.
All that said, learning the triangle seems to be more about repetition and patience. Given that, the Golden State Warriors’ bench could struggle out of the gate though given how woeful they were during the 2013-14 season, anything will be an improvement this year.
