Boston Celticsâ point guard Rajon Rondo reportedly wants out of Boston. Rondo, however, has denied those reports and the Celtics continue to say they want to keep Rondo long-term and sign him to an extension.

According, Yannis Koutroupis of Basketball Insiders, extension talks between the two sides did not go beyond the preliminary stages.
"As an unrestricted free agent, players can receive a five-year contract, whereas if they agree to an extension, the most they can do is add on three years to their existing contract. It just doesnât make sense to sign an extension, which is why recent extension talks between Rajon Rondo and the Boston Celtics did not go beyond the preliminary stages. The Celtics knew that there was no chance he was going to agree to anything they had to offer, but wanted to make their interest in keeping him long-term known as they cleaned house around him, letting Doc Rivers take over the Los Angeles Clippers and trading Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Brooklyn Nets."
Although the Celtics continue to say they wonât trade Rondo, it looks like the best option may be to deal him and continue adding young talent and assets to the roster.
Rondo averaged 11.7 points, 9.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 40.3% from the field, 28.9% from beyond the arc and 62.7% from the free throw line last season in his return from an ACL injury. Rondo was originally selected by the Celtics with the 21st-overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. In his eight-year career, he has averaged 11.1 points, 8.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 47.5% from the floor, 25.2% from three and 62.1% from the free throw line.
