While Ricky Rubio’s name has been thrown around in trade rumors over the past week, it seems rather unlikely that the Minnesota Timberwolves point guard will be moved.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

Set to become a restricted free agent at season end, the T’Wolves and Ricky Rubio have been working on a contract extension though are said to see differently on the amount of money Rubio would be paid. Given that, the two sides are not close to finalizing a deal and it’s unknown if the Timberwolves and Ricky Rubio will be able to agree upon an extension before the deadline strikes.

Part of the reason as to why Ricky Rubio’s camp is holding out for extra money is the knowledge that both the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers will have available cap space come the offseason.

While the Los Angeles Lakers currently have Jeremy Lin on their roster, he’s a free agent at season end as well. Given that, it seems rather safe to assume that there’s a strong likelihood that both the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks will have a pressing need for a point guard.

Can you imagine Ricky Rubio’s flashy passes in the bright lights of LA or NY? You have to think his agent is drooling at the thought, especially if he can’t get the Minnesota Timberwolves to pay his client the type of money he’s seeking.
