Capital One Cup 2014: Third round preview and predictions

After yesterdays thrilling games in the Third round of the Capital One Cup, another set of fixtures on Wednesday looks to be just an intriguing. Having played out a high quality 1-1 draw on Sunday, both Man City and Chelsea return to action and will be hopeful of getting back into the winning habit. They both face opposition from a lower decision, which will allow managers Pellegrini and Mourinho a chance to rotate their team. Burton against Brighton is the only clash not to have an English Premier League team and the winner will head into the draw for the Fourth Round hoping they get a crack at one of the bigger names.

Selected Games:

Chelsea v Bolton -14:45

Chelsea look set to rotate their squad and it will be a good chance to see some of their fringe players get game time. Petr Cech could well get a chance in goal, having been kept on the bench since Thibaut Courtois returned from his loan. Ramires and Diego Costa are injury doubts for the blues, who will still be confident of overcoming Bolton, who have new goalkeeper Paddy Kenny ready to start. Prediction: Chelsea 4 – 0

Man City v Sheff Wed – 14:45

Man City will also use this opportunity to rotate their squad after a punishing weekend game in the Premier League on Sunday evening against Chelsea. Caballero will likely start in goal to give Joe Hart is rest. Sheffield Wednesday will be taking inspiration from how the MK Dons eliminated Man United in the last round, but this would be an upset of similar proportions.  Prediction: Man City 3 – 0

Crystal Palace v Newcastle – 15:00

The pressure on Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is enormous. Fans have been advertising the website sackpardew.com in order to gain the attention of Newcastle owner Mike Ashley. A cup run is always a good way of relieving pressure on a manager, but a trip to Crystal Palace is a tough challenge. Palace head into the game having travelled to Everton and earning an impressive 3-2 win. Prediction: Crystal Palace  2 – 1

Other Fixtures:

Burton v Brighton – 14:45

Tottenham v Nottm Forest -14:45

West Brom v Hull -15:00
