If ever there was a poster man for Italian soccer, it would be one Andrea Pirlo. After all, he’s spent his entire career playing in Italy during an age when national borders matter little to star players.

However, at the age of 35, it appears the former Inter Milan and current Juventus star appears to be ready to shock the soccer world with a move to the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Pirlo is set to make the move in January despite recently signing a two-year deal to stay on at Juventus.

Galaxy manager Bruce Arena didn’t shy away from talking about the possibility of adding Pirlo, or at least someone around his caliber. He recently was quoted as saying, “We are interested in players of his caliber,” per a report on ESPN.com.

It would be a shocking move not only because of his new deal at Juventus, but also because of recent comments.

“Why should I move? Serie A is the top league in Italy and life is good,” said Pirlo, via The Daily Mail. “Two years with Juventus, then maybe I can go to the MLS in the United States.”

On the Galaxy side of things, it wouldn’t be that big of a shock to try to make this move. They have the capital to make it happen, with star Landon Donovan retiring after this season. That frees up a designated player spot and the Galaxy are not exactly strapped for cash, meaning they can afford any transfer fee or salary demands Juventus and Pirlo may request.

Even at 35 years old, Pirlo is still one of the finest players in Serie A today.

Getting him for the final few years of his career could be an interesting move for MLS and the Galaxy.
