Although the New York Knicks re-signed Carmelo Anthony this offseason, it’s understood the 2014-15 campaign will be more of a re-tooling season for the franchise.

That said Phil Jackson and company aren’t going to simply lay down and let the season pass them by as they’re doing what they can to make the postseason despite the rebuilding process. Will they be able to clinch a playoff birth though?

Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders isn’t willing to go that far though he does believe the New York Knicks will be in conversation for the eighth and final playoff seed in the Eastern Conference.

"This is how I see the East: Chicago, Cleveland, Miami, Toronto, Brooklyn, Washington and Charlotte with Detroit, Atlanta and the Knicks battling it out for 8th place."

Working in the New York Knicks’ favor is the fall from grace the Indiana Pacers are expected to experience which could potentially open up a playoff spot most would have presumed taken.

Unlike the deep Western Conference, the NBA’s Eastern Conference is more top-heavy and tends to get muddled after the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers. Given that, it’s completely possible the New York Knicks could sneak into the postseason despite their influx roster.
