Oklahoma City Thunder guard Reggie Jackson hasn’t been shy regarding his desire to start. He’s also been very open about wanting to get paid.

Of course with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook handling the majority of the small forward/shooting guard work, starting may prove difficult for Reggie Jackson if he’s to remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder. That doesn’t mean he won’t get paid though as according to Randy Renner, the Thunder are making every effort possible to extend the contract of Jackson.

If Jackson was to hit the open market he’d certainly command a significant contract and understandably that’s not something the Thunder are wanting to deal with. Given that, the team is doing what they can to lock him up long-term.

For Reggie Jackson, it’s simply about priorities. He could be given a starting spot with the Thunder eventually, though would obviously be a third wheel behind both Durant and Westbrook as long as they’re with the franchise. If he’s looking for more of a staring role, he isn’t going to find that in Oklahoma City.

Jackson will be a restricted free agent at season end if he and the Oklahoma City Thunder can’t agree upon an extension before the October 31st deadline. He’ll then have the opportunity to either sign an offer sheet elsewhere, re-sign with the Thunder or accept a one-year qualifying offer.
