The Los Angles Lakers are in a situation this year where they aren’t expected to win much but may luck their way into more than a few wins.

More from Los Angeles Lakers

One reason that the Lakers could see some success this year is thanks to guard Jeremy Lin. After hitting a peak with the New York Knicks back in 2012, Lin-sanity has died down to an almost nonexistent level. He flamed out with the Houston Rockets and is looking for some redemption with the Lakers.

Larry Coon from Basketball Insiders believes that Lin is a good player but he’s not a top 100 player.

"I don’t think Lin is at that level. Is he a top-25 player in the league right now? Top 50? Top 100? I wouldn’t put him anywhere above that, now that Linsanity is over. The Laker franchise guys tend to be among the top players of all time — Kobe, Shaq, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, West, etc. Lin’s not in that league."

This is really two digs at Lin and one is justified. He’s not going to be on the Lakers Mount Rushmore someday but that doesn’t mean he can’t prove himself to be useful in immense ways. He’s not a top 100 player at the moment, but he an force his way high into the power rankings with a solid season in Los Angeles.

That’s what the Lakers want out of him and that’s something that the two sides will mutually strive for this year.
