We have finally arrived at this moment. A point in the season that all baseball fans, especially ones of that iconic team in the Bronx, have been dreading all year. Yes, today is the conclusion to the storybook career of a Yankees all time great; Derek Jeter. The team captain, and the arguable face of the sport for the last 20 seasons, will be playing his final game at Boston’s Fenway Park, and Jeter, once again, will not take the field at shortstop.

No. 2 will be inserted into the line up at second, and will DH in his final appearance on a major league field. And when you really think about it, going out at his rival’s home ballpark is not the worst way to do it. If anything, it is the next best departure scenario. True, a proper sendoff at Yankees Stadium would have been most fitting for the season finale, but the fans in Boston can give the captain a goodbye that is unique in its own way. Red Sox fans have the prospective of being on the other side of the spectrum of the Jeter fanfare for these past two decades. They have rued and lamented the name “Derek Jeter” ever since he swung his first major league bat.
All of that rage and disdain for Jeter has subsided to a certain extent of the last few years, due in part to the 3 world series titles within the past 10 years. However, there is something more; an appreciation that comes from having a worthy adversary. For years, Boston had just that with Jeter. And over time, that turned into respect. We had a name chant break out once already during this season, it would not surprise anyone if there was one final sequence today.
