While many have questioned the desire of Andrew Wiggins, there’s no denying the talent of the Minnesota Timberwolves forward.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

During Wiggins’ short tenure at Kansas the Canadian native seemed to play a background role to teammate Joel Embiid, something that seemed to worry front offices across the NBA. It apparently didn’t worry Minnesota Timberwolves head coach and president Flip Saunders who believes Andrew Wiggins can be an ‘elite’ defender in the NBA.

“We had a pretty good handle on who he was before we made the trade. He continues to get better and better every day in a lot of areas,” said Saunders. “There’s no question he has the ability to be a very, very, very good defender. He can be an elite defender. We just have to keep working on his fundamentals and let his fundamentals catch up with his athleticism.”

Thanks to his unique combination of quickness and length it’s hard to disagree with Saunders as Andrew Wiggins looks to have all the physical tools needed to be a star in the league. Of course, you also need a mental game if you’re to take the next level and that’s where the questions loom for Wiggins.

There’s no doubt that if Andrew Wiggins is ever able to harness the mental aspect of the NBA, he’ll be among the elite in the game. If he can’t, he might be another all-world talent who just can’t put it together.
