Jonahthan Dwyer has formally been charged with felony aggravated assault and eight misdemeanors after he assaulted his wife during two arguments in July at their Phoenix apartment according to the Associated Press.

More from Arizona Cardinals

Dwyer joined an infamous group of NFL players including Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Greg Hardy and Ray McDonald who have committed incidents of domestic violence that have brought the NFL under serious fire.

According to the Associated Press, investigators say Dwyer broke his wife’s nose during a July 21 argument and engaged in a dispute the following day in which he punched his wife and threw a shoe at his 17-month-old son, who wasn’t injured.

While Dwyer was arrested initally for suspicions of assaulting his son, there are no crimes related to the child that Dwyer is being charged with.

Dwyer will not return to the Arizona Cardinals according to head coach Bruce Arians who said a week ago that the Cardinals would only consider bringing Dwyer back if he was exonerated of any charges.

Dwyer is in his fifth NFL season. He spent four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Arizona Cardinals. In the 2014 season, Dwyer had 16 rushes for 51 yards and a touchdown, playing as a back up to Andre Ellington. Question marks about Dwyer’s status remain. Will he play in the NFL again? If so, where? Dwyer still has legal matters to solve and it’s safe to say he won’t be on the field for a while.
