Mike Komisarek released from Devils training camp
It seems that the New Jersey Devils have started to slim down some of their extravagant veteran numbers at training camp.
Sunday afternoon, the first of five veterans invited to the Devils’ training camp on a professional tryout contract was released, as defenseman Mike Komisarek was cut and sent home.

Komisarek, originally drafted sixth overall by the Montreal Canadiens, is only 32. Injuries have prevented him from making any kind of major impact in the past few years, though; he was bought out by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013, and has only appeared in 86 games over the past three seasons. During his most recent campaign with the Carolina Hurricanes, he only saw minutes in 32 regular season games (the team failed to make the playoffs) and walked away with only a single goal for the Metropolitan Division team before being cut loose by them as well.
There was once a point where Komisarek was considered a formidable body-checking defenseman in the league, but it seems that his injuries have become insurmountable for him within the NHL. His level of play failed to earn him a spot in New Jersey, and it’s likely that his cut from their training camp has signaled an end to his career with the league.
Devils fans still looking to see which veterans will make the cut should note that defenseman Tomas Kaberle is still at camp, as are forwards Jordin Tootoo, Ruslan Fedotenko, and Scott Gomez.
