While the Minnesota Timberwolves retooled themselves this offseason by acquiring Andrew Wiggins, Thaddeus Young and Anthony Bennett they’re still among the youngest teams in the NBA.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Given that there’s no way the T’Wolves could find themselves in contention for a playoff spot in the tough Western Conference, right? Not so fast as Nate Duncan of Basketball Insiders feels there is a ‘very small chance’ the Minnesota Timberwolves could make the postseason.

"There is a very small chance the Wolves could compete for the playoffs this year, if a) the West drops down to a more normal level for the 8th seed, b) the guys on the roster perform above expectations, and c) they get lucky in close games. But that seems unlikely."

It would essentially take a perfect storm of scenarios for the Minnesota Timberwolves to find themselves in the postseason, so while perhaps possible, the chances are incredibly slim.

Far deeper than the Eastern Conference where a team could make the postseason with a below .500 record, a team in the Western Conference will likely need a 50-win season to snag a low seed. That’s not something the T’Wolves are going to do so they’d need a season riddled with injuries where teams like the Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Pelicans fall out of contention for their presumed spot.
