By Bryan Rose
When the season opened the San Diego Chargers were expected to be a team who based their offense off their run game.

Things started off that way though oft-injured starting running back Ryan Mathews was again sidelined which threw a wrench in the plans. Thankfully the team still had Danny Woodhead though lost him to injury too as the former New England Patriots talent is out for the season.
That has left Donald Brown as the lone man in the three-headed backfield and the results have been less than inspiring.
Despite playing solid football recently, head coach Mike McCoy ripped the San Diego Chargers’ offense for their lack of production in the running game.
“The big thing is the running game. It’s nowhere where it needs to be,” McCoy said Monday. “There’s no excuses about it. We’re not running it well enough. We’re not blocking well enough. Whatever we’re running isn’t working. We’ve got to figure out as coaches and players how to get it done.”
While Donald Brown took blame for the poor rushing attack, McCoy went on to suggest the team has plenty of talent to make the running game work even without Mathews and Woodhead.
As for Ryan Mathews return to the San Diego Chargers, he is still considered week-to-week though is unlikely to see the field for another week or two at minimum.
