Trevor Plouffe ran red lights to say goodbye to Ron Gardenhire
By Ed Carroll
Minnesota Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe made sure he said goodbye to outgoing manager Ron Gardenhire — and was willing to break traffic laws to do it.

Most of the time, when MLB managers are fired, there’s usually very little remorse on the side of the team doing the firing. Usually if an MLB manager is fired, there’s a good reason for it, and while that doesn’t always dissipate the bad blood, the excitement of someone new quickly replaces disappointment over the previous manager’s failures.
But Gardenhire had been a member of the Twins’ coaching staff since 1991 (which was also the Twins’ most recent championship), and he was even at his dismissal press conference, almost unheard of for a manager leaving the organization.
But Gardenhire, for all his faults as the Twins manager from 2002 until this 2014 season, is still quite beloved by the Twins fanbase, and his former players, including Plouffe, who got his chance to thrive under Gardy, though I don’t think the manager ever intended for the third baseman to run through red lights:
Plouffe just had surgery on his left arm (you can see it in the sling in the picture), but had his wife drive him to the press conference, which they were late to, and blocked the road so he would get a chance to hug Gardenhire goodbye. And it’s always nice to see a silver lining in a sad story.
